Natural Peanut Butter

One of the yahoo groups I currently participate in was having a discussion recently about natural peanut butter. As in, REAL peanut butter, with no preservatives, sugar, salt, or oil added. Have you tried it?

I bought some President's Choice "Just Peanuts" pb a few weeks ago to make dog treats and it was the first time I had tried "real" peanut butter. It's taste is, well, surprising. It tastes just like peanuts. Go figure.

Once you've had natural peanut butter, you'd have to be crazy to go back to the normal commercial crap we've been calling pb. It tastes like..candy, but really BAD for you candy. Coming from someone who used to eat pb daily while pregnant, I'm surprised that people recommend you eat it daily. I mean, let's compare, shall we?

Being compared are Equality Brand Smooth Peanut Butter and President's Choice Just Peanuts Smooth Old-Fashioned Peanut Butter (per 1 tablespoon):

Equality Brand PC Just Peanuts

Calories 90 Calories 100 (wonder why? although the PC
brand says a tbsp is 15 g while the other is 14

Fat 7 g Fat 8 g
saturates 1.5 g saturates 1 g

Cholesterol 0 mg Cholesterol 0 mg

Sodium 50 mg Sodium 0 mg

Carbs 4 g Carbs 3 g

Fibre 1 g Fibre 1 g

Sugars 1 g Sugars 1 g

Protein 3 g Protein 3 g

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ok, so why are they so similar in nutritional value? I don't get it. I mean, look at the ingredients lis:

Equality Brand:
Peanuts, hygdrogenated vegetable oil (contains soybean oil), icing sugar, corn syrup solids, salt.

PC brand: 100% freshly roasted peanuts.

hmmm...wonder what they use to roast the peanuts?

In any case, check it out. The taste is extraordinarily different. You won't go back.
